CARMI, Ill. - After what happened in Broward County, Florida, yesterday (February 14, 2018), naturally everyone is on edge all over the country...which is what likely resulted in the situation with Carmi schools that emerged today.
Apparently the Carmi Police believed there to have been a possible threat when a very young student (we've learned he's in 7th grade) posted something online yesterday. It's reported that the student, a young male, was posing with a long gun and the photo bore the misspelled caption "I know were you live." The photo was reportedly sent to a female student at about 9 p.m. last night, which sent up the alarm after her parents or guardian ostensibly saw it. It was reported to authorities early this morning (Thursday, February 15).
CPD and White County Sheriff's office investigated the situation and, as shown on the Nixle alert screencap up top, found that there was no danger to the schools, but they wanted to let everyone know that there had indeed been a report.
White County Sheriff Doug Maier said that while there was no threat or danger to the school system, due to the fact that both juveniles involved attend school at the Carmi-White County School system, the school was advised, which resulted in the alert this morning.
The juvenile male was interviewed at the Sheriff's Office with his parents present after being located at the school at approximately 7:35 a.m., and was released to his parents pending further action. State's Attorney Denton Aud has been advised of the situation, but so far, no charges have been filed.
