MARION CO., Ill. - A single-vehicle crash on an interstate exit ramp last night sent the driver to an area hospital after the vehicle rolled over and the driver trapped.

Illinois State Police in District 12 said that the wreck occurred at 7:35 p.m. yesterday, Wednesday, February 14.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that a silver 2006 Kia Sorento being driven by Clarence D. Ritchie, 78, of  Wichita Falls, Texas, began to merge onto the I-57 southbound milepost 116 exit ramp in Salem.

The Kia hydroplaned on the wet pavement and Ritchie lost control of the vehicle.

The Kia then slid off the roadway to the left and continued south, crossing over the southbound onramp where it then overturned onto the driver's side.

Ritchie was entrapped in the vehicle and required extrication by the Salem Fire Department. He was transported to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Passengers in the vehicle, Betsey Ritchie, 39 and Dylan Caylor, 19, both also of Wichita Falls, were uninjured.

No citations have been issued and the incident is under investigation.
