WAYNE CO., Ill. - A teen driver from Williamson County was tired early this morning when passing through Wayne County, resulting in a crash that sent the driver to an area hospital after the vehicle overturned.
Illinois State Police in District 19 worked the crash, which occurred at 2:43 a.m. today (Sunday, October 1).
IS said that a juvenile driver, no sex given, age 17, from Johnston City, was driving a red 2005 Infiniti G35 westbound on Interstate 64 near milepost 94.5, when the vehicle left the roadway and traveled into the median, after the juvenile fell asleep at the wheel.
The vehicle overturned in the median and came to rest on its top.
The juvenile driver was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, and was later cited for Improper Lane Usage and Graduated Driver's License violation.
ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Wayne City Fire Department, Wayne County Ambulance and Rick's Towing, who removed the vehicle from the crash scene.
