LAWRENCE CO.— It is common knowledge that meth-heads have never been burdened with a sense of appreciation or learn from their mistakes.
A Lawrenceville man serving a 12-month sentence of conditional discharge following a drug conviction has been arrested and charged with another drug offense.
Edwardo Garcia, 56, of Lawrenceville, was originally charged in June 2014 with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
A plea deal included the dismissal of the meth charge and conditional discharge.
Garcia has now been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, identified as less than 15 grams of clonazepam and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis 2.5-10 grams.
No stranger to drug court, Garcia was sentenced in 2004 to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) after a conviction for Manufacture/Delivery of Cannabis 2,000-5,000 grams and meth possession.
Along with his current drug charge, Garcia is also charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.
Cash bond in the case has been set at $3,000.
Violent con busted again
A violent St. Francisville man, already given two breaks by the court system, appears to be more than a little ungrateful.
Court records indicate that on November 18, at 407 Christy, Lawrenceville, Joshua Owen Scott, 36, of St. Francisville, knowingly caused bodily harm to Kristen Coonce, a household member, when he punched Coonce in the face with his fist.
No stranger to beating people, Scott was arrested in 2003 and charged with one count each of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine 15-100 grams and Battery.
In a plea agreement on January 29, 2004, Scott pled guilty to the battery charge in return for the possession charge being dismissed and a sentence of six months court supervision.
Appearing not to learn much from his first plea deal, Scott was convicted nine months later, Oct. 20, 2004, in another plea deal, of Battery and sentenced to 12-months conditional discharge.
Scott was released from custody Nov. 19 after a $3,000 cash bond was posted.
Olney elderly woman charged with bad check
In an unrelated story, Norma Fore, 78, of Olney, has been charged with felony Deceptive Practice after authorities say on June 5 she wrote a check to the Lawrenceville IGA in the amount of $184.75, knowing the check would not be paid by the bank.
Contrary to the opinion of the unenlightened, where the check was delivered is where it’s going to be charged, not where the person who wrote the check lives.
