WHITE CO., Ill. - A Crossville woman was taken into custody yesterday afternoon after a call came in advising as to her whereabouts...and that she might make things difficult for authorities by running if she saw them.
Sgts. Byrd Huber and Craig Poole responded to the location (an apartment on the 500 block of Fourth Street in Crossville) where it'd been reported Alyssa Slankard, 35 of Carmi, was reported to be, with the caller advising of Slankard's proclivity to run.
The two parked by the office of White County Housing in Crossville and walked to the location on the south side of the complex, with Huber going to the front door and Poole minding the back.
The front door, Huber reported, was open to the apartment as he approached, and he could see Slankard laying on the couch and another person sitting in a recliner in the living room. Despite this, when he knocked on the door, no one responded. When he knocked a second time, neither person moved. So Huber entered the apartment and asked the person on the couch if she was Alyssa.
At least Slankard advised that she was, so she was told of the warrant and was taken into custody.
The charges were for felony Burglary/Theft and misdemeanor Theft; Slankard was able to post bond to secure her release.
In an unrelated incident, a child's bike was reported taken from a location on North Shipley Street.
Kristin N. Ott reported yesterday morning that her son's bike had been stolen from her yard at that location on the 700 block of N. Shipley. She advised that she noticed it missing on Tuesday, the 8th, but waited until Wednesday to report it because she thought it might've been possibly that a neighbor kid had borrowed it.
Apparently that was not the case, and so the theft report was made. The bike is reported to be a blue 20-inch Kent Ambush with blue pegs on the front wheel. There was a name plate on the back of the seat bearing the name "Zachary," and had a Carmi registration on the front of the seat. If you know of anyone who isn't named Zachary riding around on Zachary's bike, call authorities at 618-382-7149.
