High-speed chase out of Ziegler ends in Carmi; other arrests made

WHITE CO., Ill. - Multiple counties were involved in a high-speed chase out of Franklin County that ended in Carmi early this morning, according to Carmi police reports.

Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter advised that the vehicle pursuit began in Ziegler in Franklin County. Police were chasing the vehicle being driven by Michelle R. Miller, 32, of the 100 block of Marshall Place in Carmi, this morning Monday, January 22, at around 1 a.m.

Miller was pursued all the way into Carmi, where she pulled up at the address and ran inside.

Police say that after a struggle, she was taken into custody at 1:41 a.m. on several charges from White and Hamilton counties, with charges anticipated from Franklin County as well.

Arresting charges were felony Aggravated Battery, felony Obstructing Justice, and misdemeanor Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer, all in White; along with Hamilton County felony Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, and misdemeanor Reckless Driving. She was being held at White County jail in Carmi as of this afternoon pending posting of bond.

In other arrests made by Carmi PD, on Saturday, Jan. 20 just after 5:30 p.m., a city officer observed James L. Parker, 21, of Carmi, getting fuel at the Huck’s convenience store. Knowing Parker was wanted on a White County warrant, the officer approached Parker and advised him of the warrant. During the confirmation of the warrant it was discovered Parker has two White County warrants for domestic battery, alleging both strongarm to a female adult and strongarm to a male adult.

Parker was taken into custody without incident and transported to the White County Jail. He was later able to post bond and was released.

Belinda Roberts

In another warrant arrest on Sunday, authorities took 44-year-old Belinda M. Roberts of Carmi into custody early in the morning, at 1:20 a.m.

Roberts was arrested on a White County warrant for Retail Theft, but when she was taken into custody, it was alleged that she was in possession of meth and paraphernalia, so she was subsequently charged with felony Possession of Meth, misdemeanor Possession of Hypodermic Syringes/Needles and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and a civil count of Possession of Cannabis less than 10 grams. As of this afternoon she was still in custody at the White County Jail.
