WHITE CO., Ill. - What was probably just an errant comment about a suicide threat was an attention-grabber Sunday morning, and the attention wasn't just grabbed by those closest to the guy: It also got the law involved.
White County authorities said that yesterday (Sunday, January 21) at about 6:45 a.m., they received a call from Penny Martin of Phillipstown. Ms. Martin advised that her daughter, Adison Martin, is in a relationship with Johnny Gwaltney, 28, of Enfield. Saturday night, she told authorities, Gwaltney had been drinking and it started an argument between Gwaltney and her daughter. Gwaltney is reported to have told Adison he was going to shoot himself, so Adison left the Enfield residence and went to her mother's residence in Phillipstown.
Sheriff Doug Maier and Deputy Randy Graves responded to the call. At approximately 6:55 a.m., Penny Martin called the sheriff's office to report that Gwaltney was at her residence banging on the door.
At approximately 7:03 a.m., Maier stopped Gwaltney at the location of 1950 East at 1800 North in Phillipstown. Maier initiated the vehicle stop without incident. Gwaltney, it was discovered, did not have a gun in his vehicle. He did, however, advise that he and Adison had been arguing all night.
A license check on Gwaltney showed he was revoked in Illinois, so he was arrested for Driving While Revoked.
Gwaltney was able to post $150 cash bond to secure his release.
