CLAY CO., Ill. - Warrant service - serving warrants on people charged, whether they know they've been charged or whether they've violated some probation term - highlights the Clay County Sheriff's report for the end of August through the first week of September, and it goes both ways: Plenty of out-of-county warrants are being served on Clay County residents, and plenty of people from out of the county were being served Clay County warrants.
If that's not confusing, read on. Here are the things Clay County sheriff's department have been handling, from August 28 through September 6th.
Aug. 28, Adam J. Pipkins, 34, Dieterich, was arrested on an outstanding Clay County warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Attempt-Manufacture of a Controlled Substance. Bond set at $1,500.00 (10 percent), plus $75.00 warrant fee. He is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail.
Aug. 30, Elizabeth Stevens, 32, Olney, was arrested on an outstanding Clay County warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Operation of Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Bond set at $3,000.00 (10 percent), plus $75.00 warrant fee. She appeared in Clay County Court and was released.
Sept. 1, Clay County Sheriff's Deputy arrested Phillip J. Backstrom, 44, Cisne, for Driving While Driver's License Revoked. He was given a Notice to Appear and released.
Sept. 1, Johnnie D. Matthews, 35, Fairfield, was arrested on an outstanding Clay County warrant for Retail Theft and Battery. Bond set at $5,000.00 (10 percent). He is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail.
Sept. 1, Kelby Simmons, 28, Effingham, was arrested on an outstanding Clay County warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Domestic Battery. Bond set at $10,000.00 (10 percent), plus $75.00 warrant fee. He posted bond and was released.
Sept. 1, the Clay County Sheriff's Office was notified of motor vehicle accident at 8:15 a.m. at a private drive on West North Avenue in Flora. Apparently Amanda J. Hemrich, 36, Flora, operating a 2002 Chevrolet truck was pulling in to park her vehicle and Donald Jones, 58, Flora, operating a 2007 Ford truck was backing from a parking spot and struck the Hemrich vehicle. No injuries reported.
Sept. 2, the Clay County Sheriff's Office was notified of a motor vehicle accident at 11:45 p.m. west of the intersection of Oak Mound Lane and Buckeye Road. Apparently Jordan Winka, 19, Flora, operating a Toyota Tundra was travelling west on Oak Mound Lane, lost control of the vehicle, entered the embankment and overturned. No injuries reported.
Sept. 3, the Clay County Sheriff's Office was notified of a motor vehicle accident west of the intersection of Indigo Lane and Sunset Road. Apparently Lisa M. Wells, 44, Olney, operating a 2002 Ford was travelling east on Indigo Lane a quarter-mile west of Sunset Road, lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and overturned, causing the vehicle to burst into flames. Wells and her passenger, Jerry Chase, 25, Olney, then fled the scene. Wells was cited for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Chase was cited for Failure to Report Accident to Police. Both were given Notice to Appear in Clay County court. Other charges pending. No injuries reported.
Sept. 5, Chelsea Sipes, 32, Shumway, was arrested on an outstanding Clay County warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance. Bond set at $80,000.00 (10 percent), plus $75.00 warrant fee. She is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail.
Sept. 5, Clay County Sheriff's Deputy arrested Courtney Smith, 31, Cottage Hills, Illinois, on an outstanding Clay County warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of D.U.I. Bond set at $2,000.00 (10 percent), plus $75.00 warrant fee. She posted bond and was released.
Sept. 5, the Clay County Sheriff's Office was notified of a motor vehicle accident at 4:50 p.m. south of the intersection of Black Oak Road and Campground Lane. Apparently Cody Nottingham, 22, Xenia, operating a 2012 Chevrolet truck was travelling south on Black Oak Road, when he began approaching another southbound vehicle, a 1995 Chevrolet truck operated by Daren Milner, 39, Olney. Nottingham attempted to slow his vehicle and began sliding in the gravel, striking the Milner vehicle. Nottingham was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. He was given a Notice to Appear and released. No injuries reported.
Sept. 5, Dalton W. Allen, 22, Flora, was arrested on an outstanding Clay County warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Driving While Driver's License Suspended. Bond set at $5,000.00 (10 percent), plus $75.00 warrant fee. He posted bond and was released.
Sept. 6, the Clay County Sheriff's Office received a report of motor vehicle accident at 7:15 a.m. east of the intersection of U.S. Hwy 50 and Mayflower. Apparently Aaron Riester, 53, operating a 2000 Peterbilt Truck was stopped at the construction site and pulled to the side of the road, when a 2007 Ford operated by Sydney Hosford attempted to go around the Riester vehicle, striking the trailer. No injuries reported.
