WABASH CO., Ill. - The Wabash County Sheriff's Office handled two warrant arrests and dealt with a domestic that included medication-flushing at the end of August, reports Sheriff Derek Morgan.
In his report of his department activities, Morgan has issued material on the following:
On August 24 at approximately 2:34 p.m., the Wabash County Sheriff's Office was assisting the Department of Children and Family Services at a residence on E 920 Ln. in Mt. Carmel. Upon completion of the assist it was found that 34-year-old Christopher M. Sokeland, of Fort Branch Ind., had an outstanding warrant in Lawrence County, Illinois. Sokeland was taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail.
On Aug. 27, a Wabash County Sheriff's deputy made an investigative traffic stop at 4th Street and River Road. This stop resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Michael C. Dent of Albion. During the stop, Dent was found to have an active Wayne County, Illinois, warrant. Dent was taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail.
On Aug. 28, at 5:44 p.m., the Wabash County Sheriff's Office was requested to respond to E 920 Ln for a welfare check. While at the residence, the deputy observed a glass jar containing a large amount of what appeared to be cannabis. The occupant, 26-year-old Coltin S. Higginbotham, advised it was cannabis. Higginbotham was taken into custody and charged with possession of cannabis over 10 grams. Higginbotham later posted $150 cash bond and was released.
Again on Aug. 28 at 11:38 p.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call of a domestic in progress at 21888 E. 1400 Rd., Allendale. When the deputy arrived he found that 41-year-old Jeremy S. Cusick and 33-year-old Hilda J. Cusick had been in a physical altercation. During the altercation it is alleged Mrs. Cusick struck Mr. Cusick over the head with a picture frame as well as flushing medications down the toliet. Mr. Cusick reportedly broke a cell phone as well as pushing Mrs. Cusick onto the couch and sitting on her elbow and collar bone, pinning her to the couch. Both Cusicks were charged with Domestic Battery and taken to the Wabash County Jai, where they were awaiting bond to be set by the judge.
