Crockett N. Wade

CARMI, Ill. - A Carmi man who's perpetually in trouble apparently hasn't learned much from his past incidents.

Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter said the whole thing went down at approximately 3:36 a.m. Saturday (August 5) when Carmi Police conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of North 5th street in Carmi on a silver car bearing Illinois plates of AA75105.

Officers approached the car and made contact with the driver and sole occupant, Crockett N. Wade, 45.

The officer requested Wade’s driver’s license and insurance and he was able to provide both. The officer checked the insurance card for valid dates and handed the card back to Wade, then checked Wade's driver's license status on the in-car computer and was informed the license was valid.

The officer re-approached Wade and handed Wade his driver's license back to him.  Wade was asked to step out of the vehicle after a consent search was granted and he did so.

The officer observed a bulge in Wade's right front pocket, so a pat-down was performed and the officer noted, through training and experience, he believed the object to be a pipe used to ingest illegal substances. The officer asked Wade what it was and asked him to remove the object. Wade stated he didn’t have anything in his pockets.

Wade was asked to step back to another officer and it appeared that Wade was going to run.

As the officer grabbed Wade, Wade twisted away and began running in to and pushing down another officer, causing injury to that officer. Wade took off running through a yard, eastbound toward 4th street.  The officer was able to catch Wade in the yard and tackled him but lost his grip. Wade got up and continued to run toward 4th; he was ordered to stop but he continued.

Officers continued to pursue Wade as he ran in to a yard at the northeast corner of 4th and Maple. Wade fell two times and on the second time, officers caught him as he was standing up. The officer grabbed Wade by the shirt and he started to try and pull away. Wade was taken to the ground. One officer restrained Wade while the other officer placed handcuffs on Wade.

A camouflage bag was found lying where Wade was taken into custody. Inside the bag was discovered a purple/pink glass pipe with a bowl on one end with a white powder residue in the pipe. The pipe was field tested with a positive response indicated for Methamphetamine.

Wade remains in custody at the White County Jail in Carmi facing felony charges of Aggravated Battery, Resisting/Obstructing Peace Officer, Obstructing Justice, Possession of Methamphetamine and misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. His cash bond has been set at $5,000.
