WHITE CO., Ill. - White County authorities have had an eventful past few days with a significant theft reported out of the little village of Mill Shoals, and the jailing of a repeatrepeatrepeat crim.

The vehicle reported stolen was a side-by-side ATV, located in the Mill Shoals area near a drainage ditch where work was being done.

The ATV is owned by the business doing the ditch work - James Young Excavating of Enfield. Debbie Stone was the caller to the sheriff's department yesterday (Monday, July 17) at approximately 9:36 a.m. to report the incident.

Stone said that the ATV was left southwest of Mill Shoals near the drainage ditch and the roadway, specifically 25 East and approximately 2550 North, where other miscellaneous equipment was situated. Stone said it's believed it was taken during the overnight hours of Sunday, July 16, into Monday, July 17.

The side-by-side pretty much stands out by its description: It's a Polaris Ranger 800, black with white stripes, with after-market larger tires and wheels. It has a Reese hitch on the back positioned upside down; it also has a winch. The top is put on with a ratchet strap, and the hood is missing from the front of the ATV.

Responding Deputy Randy Graves searched miscellaneous locations in the Springerton and rural area around that village, south of the drainage ditch location, and contacted Car Corral in Flora up in Clay County in case the person who took the ATV decided he wanted to buy a hood for it.

Apparently, there is a suspect...so if anyone has info, feel free to turn it over to the sheriff's department, by calling 618-382-5321.

Tabitha Swango

In other county action yesterday (Monday, July 17), perpetual crim Tabitha A. Swango, 36, of Carmi, was arrested at 9:08 a.m. on a White County warrant for Retail Theft under $300. Swango posted $150 cash bond and $20 booking fee on the misdemeanor charge and has been released.
