LAWRENCE CO., Ill. - The ink is barely dry on the previous charges filed against DJ Thacker...and now, he's facing new problems.
Thacker, 48, who, along with his new girlfriend Crystal Behrens, 32, both of Alma in Marion County, graces the front page of this issue in a major Clay County detailing their arrest there, which we brought to you a few days after it happened, at this link, regarding the two being charged with distributing bath salts.
Now, Thacker is sitting in Jasper County Jail, being held on a $150,000 bail ($15,000 cash bond), as JC authorities have accused him of violating the terms of his probation with the June 2 arrest in Clay.
Thacker, it's being reported to us, was supposed to have been in court Wednesday, June 21, in Lawrence County on a vehicle theft charge filed against him last year after the Secretary of State police completed their investigation into doings at his "used car lot" he had at his place in the Chauncey area north of Sumner.
Waiting for him in Lawrence were agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency. However, Thacker never showed up in court...which is always a bad thing.
The next day (Thursday, June 22), DEA showed up at the residence of John York (who was also charged in connection with the early March 2016 grain theft that made Thacker a felon), and it was there that they took him into custody.
The presence of DEA seems to indicate that there are new charges, which fits what we're hearing about the seriousness of the Clay County charges...and seems to indicate that this is a little more widespread than just limited to Clay, Lawrence or Jasper counties.
When we learn more, we'll post; in the meantime, if you don't have an online membership to the e-Edition, you can jump right in with an affordable Day Pass ($2.99), which gives you 24-hour access to ALL articles we've published in the print edition for the past five years, or a full Month Pass for only $5.99, a real bargain as we are putting out two issues per month these days ($8 total if you buy them both...although they're good to save for posterity, as they'll likely be collector's items some day.)
