CARMI, Ill. - Sadly, we live in a climate right now where criminality doesn't negatively impact good looks.
That much, anyway.
We see a lot of mugshots here, and for the most part, people appear in them as ratty as they are, especially the drunks or the obvious meth users. But every so often we get a normal-looking individual (generally, from a white-collar crime...which doesn't happen in southern Illinois very often, really). And more infrequently than that, we get an individual who rivals Jeremy Meeks for "mugshot hotties" (I'm not kidding...there is a whole set of websites devoted to that nonsense, check out this link for the Illinois charter...) You remember Meeks, right? He's this guy:
Women were just swooning over his mugshot when he was arrested in California in 2014. He now has a modeling career...after a two-year sentence in California. Standards? What standards. Most of the fashion industry is standardless...that's how they get ahead in the game. I mean, have you SEEN the garbage that these people strut on the catwalk...? But I digress.
So we're looking at the emails today for our usual press release stuff and Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter has submitted material regarding arrest of and charges against Sean Spurlock, 24, of Carmi. Here's Sean:
I mean, check it out. It's like Sean posed. That insouciant stare. That head cocked to the side. Square chin, round head, good symmetry. All he's missing are the obnoxious tatts (although if he's like all the other millennials we know, he's got em...he just doesn't have the crim-approved tatts on the neck [always a dead giveaway]).
What'd Sean do to get such a fine mug taken of him?
Well, authorities say that he was pulled over at 9:23 Monday evening (June 19) on Burrell Street at Stewart in Carmi because he had a tail light issue. Authorities soon discovered that he was allegedly not in possession of a valid driver's license...nor any kind of insurance...but he WAS in possession of a controlled substance. And that allegation was what secured the mug, because that's a felony. Class 4, but still. (And there's no indication on the arrest documents of what the substance was; we'll find that out later).
Like Mr. Meeks, Mr. Spurlock caught a felony Theft charge in 2014, and just a year ago, he was placed on Conditional Discharge over it, then last week, caught a revocation on it and was put on 30 months' probation...over a May 5 meth arrest. Now, with the new charges, it's not looking good for Mr. Spurlock. He's set for a prelim on the new charge July 5.
But in the meantime, the arrest Monday has provided a little bit of amusement by way of the mugshot...which, if you're going to be arrested, you might as well look your best. And since we have so MANY meth/pills/other things arrests in southern Illinois, crims might want to start tidying up, get a haircut, stay shaved. You never know when you might end up a mugshot hottie.
Maybe you'll get a modeling career out of it.
