Joseph P. Quertermous

WHITE CO., Ill. - A Shawneetown man in need of a ride yesterday morning got one...but not back to his home in Shawneetown.

Instead, Joseph P. Quertermous, 47, of the 500 block of Gallatin Street in Shawneetown, was picked up at 10:42 yesterday morning (Tuesday, June 13) on Main and Staley in Carmi, hitchhiking.

As it turned out, there was a reason for his hitchhiking, which was also the reason for the law picking him up: Quertermous was wanted for failure to appear on a Gallatin County warrant for a Reckless Driving conviction dating back to 2012.

Quertermous, whose name is presented incorrectly in the official documents (spelled "Quertermoes," which might simply be the guy's way of playing the name game, something that forestalls a lot of crims' troubles in the area...until the reality of it catches up to them), was on pay or appear status on the 2012 case, but evidently decided to stop paying after September 2014.

The shaggy Quertermous was housed in the White County Jail and there he remains, pending posting of bond.

Heather Ajayi

Another arrest was made on Tuesday, this one at 11:44 p.m.

At that time, Carmi police picked up Heather J. Ajayi, 46, of North Second Street in Carmi, at a location on the 500 block of Fifth Street.

Ajayi (A-J-I? Another name game? Perhaps) was wanted on a Wabash County warrant, also likely for failure to pay in a pay or appear, as she has a 2013 DUI in Wabash on which status she's been POA on and off since her December 2013 plea.

Ms. Ajayi was housed in the White County Jail on a $300 cash bond.
