WHITE CO. Ill.— A New Haven man was jailed after police spotted him driving with no tail lights, brake or running lights.
According information filed in the case, on February 3, at approximately 5:43 p.m. White County Deputy Scott Cantrell was on routine patrol when he spotted a maroon GMC truck traveling north on North Street with no rear lights.
A traffic stop was initiated at Emma and North streets with Deputy Justin Spencer arriving on scene as backup.
Cantrell made contact with the driver, who was identified by a state ID card as Tracy L. Gum, 36, of 314 Co. Rd. 1680 St., #3A, New Haven.
Gum told Cantrell that he did not have a valid driver’s license, that the vehicle wasn’t his but that he was trying to purchase the vehicle from Bruce Cartmill, of Carmi.
Gum was taken into custody and charged with Driving Revoked.
A further check of the registration showed the rear plate did not belong to that GMC truck, but to a gray 1995 Mercury sedan belonging to well-known local criminal Tara Keown.
The registration came back as having expired July 2016.
Additional charges of Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Use of Registration were issued in citations.
Gum was released from police custody later that same day after he posted a $150 cash bond and a $20 booking fee.
