CLAY/RICHLAND COs., Ill. - Family of the man involved in a serious traffic accident yesterday in Clay County have issued more information on the situation.

His relatives advise that the man is Willard Hunley, 72, of Olney. He fell asleep at the wheel while traveling west on Highway 50 through Clay County in the Flora area, and his vehicle veered off the road, into the median, down a ditch and into a creek, where it was partially submerged.

His relatives said that he suffered a fractured neck and fractured femur in the accident.

Hunley was flown to Springfield by an air evac helicopter, and today he was to have had surgery on his leg. In the meantime, his family reports, he's doing well and is in good spirits.

The family is going through a lot, however: Hunley was on his way to Springfield to see his wife, Donna Hunley, who is in the hospital there after having had a mild heart attack on Thursday, December 29.

The family would like all those who stopped to help, as well as all the responders from the Flora and Clay County area.
