HAMILTON/WHITE/WAYNE CO., Ill. - The conspicuous absence of any mention of the indictment of an errant ISP agent on an area radio station continues...but the agent is still apparently helping behind the scenes.
One has only to look at a few of the stories popping up on Fairfield's radio station to know that Rick White, of Wayne County, is still sliding information to the station's "news guy," his drinking buddy Len Wells, to see that White, after his indictment on January 27, hasn't just gone away quietly. In fact, our sources are telling us that despite being under a felony charge of perjury, which requires a person to give up their FOID and weapon (effectively taking White out of the queue as regards any of his ISP duties), White's superiors are telling him to "keep working." This is good news for the prosecutors who rely on his testimony in cases that he's already the "special agent" on...but not good in the respect that this diminishes the state in the eyes of the people who look to the state police as a respectable agency whose members should be held to a higher standard.
Anyway, it would appear that the radio station did a little more than just rip-&-strip a piece off another area radio station (WRUL in Carmi); being the particular piece on the misadventures of Eric L. Hall, 37, of Carmi (Hall, pictured at the top of the page here, was busted in neighboring Hamilton County Thursday night after some sort of rampage that got him charged with Home Invasion, Criminal Damage to Property, Criminal Trespass to a Motor Vehicle, Motor Vehicle Theft and Fleeing/Eluding)...all HamCo material that Justin Hood would send out in a press release...except that he didn't; otherwise, we would've gotten it. He likely didn't because it if happened Thursday, Hood wouldn't have gotten the presser done until Friday...but Friday was a holiday and no one was in the office there in McLeansboro.
The dead giveaway in White's part in all of this is the last line: "Assisting the Hamilton County Sheriff's office with the investigation and arrest were the McLeansboro Police Department and the Illinois State Police." Really. They wouldn't have done that on just a punk like Hall unless ISP, situated out on the highway not far from Carmi but on the way to McLeansboro, wanted that in there...and White's usually the one who wants it in there, because he thinks it improves his credibility. Which has been shot to Hades and back by this indictment.
