WHITE CO.— The pregnant girlfriend of a registered sex offender charged in early August with the stabbing of a juvenile has now joined her babydaddy in jail.
Anna Marie Grant, 21, of the 500 block of North Second St., Carmi, has been charged with Aggravated Battery and Theft.
Authorities say that Grant, for unknown reasons, struck Rasheem Jemine, resulting in the battery charge, and took control of juvenile PY’s cell phone knowing that it had been stolen, resulting in the Theft charge.
The whole thing resulted from an early-August crime spree allegedly engaged in by Grant and her boyfriend, Jacob Holland, 21, a registered sex offender who is charged by White County authorities with not registering, as well as a host of other counts in connection with the same weekend crime spree.
Holland stands charged with Aggravated Battery/Use of a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Battery/in a Public Place, Unlawful Violation of the Sex Offender Registry and Theft of Lost/Mislaid Property, this after he is alleged to have taken PY’s cell from where PY dropped it in Huck’s in Carmi, then subsequently is alleged to have beaten up a kid at the city park.
Grant’s mom enjoyed 15 minutes of fame calling local TV stations and whining about the incidents of battery that occurred to her, until it came to light that it was her kids who were involved in the battery and she was apparently trying to throw suspicion off them.
It didn’t work, and Grant was arrested August 12 after a careful investigation into the Aug. 2 series of events.
Grant’s alleged victim Jemine has criminal priors for underage drinking, as does Grant.
Grant is also a convicted drug felon.
She was arrested May 20, 2013 and charged with Manufacture/Delivery of Drugs Near a School or Park.
In a deal made December 9, 2013 she pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and was sentenced to probation for 30 months and had a jail sentence of six months stayed.
It is most likely only a matter of time before her probation is revoked and she finds herself and her unborn eating jail cuisine through the better part of the winter months.
And… she still owes $2,189 in fines and fees from that conviction.
Cash bond on both Holland and Grant’s cases was set at $2,500 each. Both were scheduled for a status hearing in their cases on delivery day of this issue, Aug. 26
