READ THE LEAD: The full story behind the ‘altercations’ in Carmi

What sounded like a brutal bunch of rotten kids acting out badly in Carmi lit up the news wires and social networking sites in early August....and prompted memes like this one:

It also provided a small handful of people with 15 minutes of fame...which, now, has resulted in kind of a reversal.

You'll find out what that is in the August 26 edition, which we're working on right now.

WHITE CO.—Yet another young sex offender not on the local registry has come to the fore after getting in trouble for not registering with local authorities…but it didn’t help matters any that he was involved in not one, but two incidents of brutality in Carmi the first weekend in August.

In one of the incidents, Jacob A. Holland, 21, has been charged with very serious crimes after allegedly stabbing another White County youth.

In the other, he was only peripherally involved, but his presence in both stems from uncontrolled young-people criminal activity, more and more of which is turning up in White and other southern Illinois counties in disturbing frequency.

Family comes forward

Family members of the victims and those involved have advised Disclosure that because other media are being careful about leaving names out of the incidents because those involved are minors, that makes the whole thing confusing…and the full story isn’t being told.

Because it’s not against the law to produce material with minors’ names attached (the law as it applies is for authorities, who are not allowed to reveal the names of juvenile crime victims; however, that doesn’t apply to the media if they learn the names from a source other than the court when sitting in on court hearings), Disclosure has opted to explain the chain of events that lead to the “beating” of a woman who was supposedly defending her daughters in a brawl – one of the daughters being pregnant, supposedly by the sex offender in question – and the subsequent stabbing of a local boy, whose name will be withheld (although thanks to social media, pretty much everyone knows who it is) because he is indeed a juvenile crime victim.
