WHITE CO., Ill.--A man is injured after his boat caught fire at his home in Enfield last night.
White County authorities advise that Franklin D. Davis, 44, was working on the carburetor of a 1984 Celebrity fiberglass boat while it was up on its trailer in the yard of his residence.
First responders advised White County Sheriff's personnel that they were called to the location at 402 W. Johnson Street at about 6:03 p.m. Responding were Enfield First Responders, Enfield Fire Department and the White County Ambulance, Along with Sheriff's Department deputies.
Upon the arrival of first responders and fire department personnel, the boat and trailer were still attached to Davis' 2005 silver Dodge pickup. First responders advised that they were able to unhook the trailer and move the truck before it could be damaged.
Sheriff Deputy George Spencer said that at that time, the truck didn't appear to have suffered any damage from the fire, but that the boat appeared to be a total loss. Davis was being treated on-scene by White County Ambulance Service personnel at that time.
Davis stated that he didn't know what had caused the fire to start, and knew only that he'd been working on the carburetor with the engine running, when the boat suddenly caught fire.
Davis sustained multiple second and third-degree burns and had to be taken to a burn treatment center in Louisville, Kentucky by AirEvac medical helicopter.
