LAWRENCE CO., Ill.---The circle widens in the shooting death of a Vincennes man.
Yesterday, Dawn Mayden, 28, of Lawrenceville, girlfriend of Robert Hutchinson, one of the three accused in the death of Christopher Melton in Vincennes April 25, has been charged with Obstruction of Justice in Lawrence County.
Mayden, it's been reported by sources close to her, "suddenly came into a lot of money" in late April...just before three men, Hutchinson among them, were arrested for Melton's murder.
While that aspect of the situation remains unexplained by officials, it's reported to us by sources close to the case that this money, alleged to be thousands of dollars, was money to keep her quiet about what she knew about the murder of Melton.
Only a few days after Melton's death (May 1, 2015), three men--Jack Harris of Oblong, Robert Malone of Vincennes, and Hutchinson of Lawrenceville, who is Mayden's most recent boyfriend--were arrested and charged with his murder.
In the investigation, Mayden came to be under suspicion regarding communications she'd had with Hutchinson. Apparently, when investigators questioned her about them, she wasn't quite truthful. She's in jail in Lawrence County tonight on a Class 4 felony Obstruction charge.
It's unknown exactly what she obstructed with, about, or over. Our sources close to her are saying it has to do with text messages.
