WHITE CO., Ill.—A young Paducah, Kentucky man has entered a plea in a White County case yesterday the likes of which few prosecutors in downstate Illinois would have followed through on.
Yet White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud did so, and was able to get a serious felony plea against David Tyler Stover, 20.
He was initially charged with:
Count I: Cyberstalking, Class 4 felony
Count II: Unlawful Grooming, Class 4 felony
Stover pled guilty yesterday (Monday, January 12, 2015) to Count II, Unlawful Grooming. Count I was dismissed pursuant to the plea.
Aud explained that the allegations of Count II were that he used Facebook to contact a person that he thought was a child to commit the offense of sexual exploitation of a child.
This, Aud said, is an offense that requires registration as a sex offender.
Norris City Police Department conducted the investigation; they have become very adept lately, it seems, at uncovering and successfully investigating child sex allegations, some of which have turned into federal cases.
Stover has been set for a sentencing hearing on March 9, 2015.
