LAWRENCE CO.—Lawrence County’s prosecutor has undergone successful open-heart surgery and as of April 11, is at home recovering.

Chris Quick, 48, now of rural Flat Rock on the Lawrence County side, went under the knife on Monday, April 8 in Evansville in order to have two blockages removed. Quick had advised on the previous Wednesday that he’d gone in for routine testing in March, and specialists had discovered that he had two 80-percent blockages that could not be stinted, so the only alternative was double bypass in order to remove them.

Quick, who is also a pastor at a Methodist church in Flat Rock, advised Disclosure that the whole thing took him by surprise, since he had no symptoms whatsoever…a situation that many Americans suffer, resulting in heart disease being one of the most common—and deadly—afflictions of the population

Quick has handled many cases in Lawrence with the kind of swift decisiveness former prosecutor Lisa Wade (whom he defeated in the November 2012 election) lacked the entire four years she was in office after coming to Lawrence from Clay County. As a result, Quick has cleared the docket of cases Wade allowed to languish almost since the day she took office in late 2008.

The pace was a rapid one and didn’t leave Quick with a lot of time to tend to healthcare concerns, but he was doing what he could when he learned of the blockage and went ahead and scheduled the surgery as quickly as he did.

He will be taking the month of April off and will return in May. In the interim, he has left the day-to-day duties of his office in the capable hands of Michael Strange, assistant state’s attorney and son of former late Lawrence County State’s Attorney Bill Strange.

Strange is moving some cases through court, and other, more serious cases, including those carrying over from Wade’s term, are either being continued to May or might be handled by the appellate prosecutor’s office special prosecutor Mike Vujovich, with whom Lawrence Countians became familiar during the Tyler McQueen murder trial this time last year (April/May 2013).

Quick wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and kind words before, during and after the heart surgery, and is looking forward to returning in May.
