CLAY CO., Ill. - Wannabe ATV thieves might take a clue from what happened last week in the village of Louisville in Clay County.
Sheriff Andy Myers said that on Friday (March 23, 2018) at approximately 5:15 p.m. a Clay County Sheriff’s deputy observed an ATV traveling northbound on Rt 45 just south of Louisville.
When the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the ATV the driver ignored the deputy’s lights and siren and continued northbound. The pursuit was later terminated after it entered the Village of Louisville.
Upon further investigation, the deputy located the ATV behind a residence east of Louisville with suspected driver unconscious, still on the ATV.
The driver attempted to resist the deputy as he was taken into custody, but was unsuccessful. The driver was transported to the Clay County Jail.
As a result of the investigation, Adam J. Pipkins, 35, was arrested for the offenses of Aggravated Fleeing to Elude a Police Officer, Resisting a Peace Officer, Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Deliver, two Effingham County Warrants for Forgery (bail $10,000, cash bond $1,000) and Unlawful Possession of a Converted Motor Vehicle (bail $40,000 cash bond $4,000).
Pipkins is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail awaiting the setting of bond.
