CARMI, Ill. - A Carmi man was taken into custody yesterday following a traffic stop, according to information provided by Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter.
Documents about the incident show that the traffic stop was affected on a silver 2004 Monte Carlo driving northbound on Church Street at 5 p.m. yesterday, Monday, January 22.
The officer was aware that the driver, Billy F. Newman, 45, of Fourth Street in Carmi, had a suspended Illinois driver's license. Newman was taken into custody without incident, and was issued a citation for Driving While License Suspended.
He was released after posting $150 cash bond on the infraction.
Carmi PD was assisted by the Illinois State Police and S&E Auto, who removed the Newman vehicle from the scene.
