Carmi Huck’s speaker and earbud heist lands suspected doper behind bars

WHITE CO.— A Carmi man already serving a drug sentence has now been accused of Forgery and Theft.

Information filed in the case allege that on October 30, 2017, Austin Shane Heffington, 27, of the 100 block of Eleventh St., Carmi, committed the offenses of forgery and theft when he presented a return receipt, purportedly made by Ashley Bebout, to a Huck’s employee for a Solaray speaker and earbuds in the amount of $53.98.

Heffington’s criminal history includes an arrest September 3, 2009, during which he was charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.

He pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge in return for the remaining charges being dismissed and was ordered to pay $445 in fines and fees.

A Domestic Battery charge, subsequent to a December 5, 2012, was also later dismissed.

At the time of his arrest, Heffington was already serving a sentence in a April 18, 2017, case in which he was convicted of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and sentenced to probation for two years and ordered to undergo drug treatment and to pay $2,475 in fines and fees, of which he has paid nothing.

Heffington was released from police custody December 1, 2017, after a $2,500 cash bond was posted on his behalf by the real Ashley Bebout.

Ms. Bebout has some legal woes of her own including awaiting trial in an April 20 2017, case in which she is charged with Perjury; awaiting trial in a October 16, 2017, case in which she is charged with Burglary, Unlawful Possession of a Credit or Debit Card and Theft.
