WABASH CO., Ill. - Wabash County Sheriff Derek Morgan has released information on incidents to which his department responded this past week, with the first one being a crash ultimately blamed on suspected DUI...and other alcohol-related issues following suit.
That one happened on June 16, around 1:30 p.m., when the Wabash County Sheriff's Office responded to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 3 in the rural Keensburg area. During the roadside investigation it was found that 33-year-old Heather Dudley of Albion was southbound on Highway 3 and failed to negotiate a left hand curve. The driver over-corrected and struck the ditch on the left side of the roadway. Dudley declined medical attention at the scene and was transported to the Wabash County Jail where she was subsequently charged with DUI, and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
On June 20 at approximately 10:45 p.m., the Wabash County Sheriff's Office responded to a one-vehicle crash on E 900 Rd. just north of Highway 11. Upon arriving at the scene the deputy found a 1997 Lincoln Towne car with its rear end in a ditch in the east side of the roadway, and its front end sticking out in the lane of traffic. The driver of the vehicle was located in the back seat of the vehicle. Jeffrey Allen, 50 of Mt. Carmel advised he swerved to miss a deer and became stuck in the ditch and decided to sleep until morning. Allen was placed under arrest and transported to the Wabash County Jail where he was charged with driving under the influence. He later posted bond.
On June 25 at approximately 9:00 a.m. the Wabash County Sheriff's Office responded to an active break in at a residence in Keensburg. When the Deputy arrived he found the front door of the residence to have been busted in. Once inside the deputy located Michael G. Whipkey II, 18, of Keensburg hiding in a closet. Whipkey was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Wabash County Jail. Whipkey is awaiting the setting of bond on a preliminary charge of Burglary and Criminal Damage to Property.
Later that evening around 8:44 p.m. the Sheriff's Office responded to an Allendale residence for a report of a domestic battery. The investigation led to 54-year-old Terry Sherman of Allendale being placed under arrest for domestic battery. Sherman is accused of slapping a female household member and slamming her head into a wooden porch. Sherman was transported to the Wabash County Jail where is awaiting the setting of bail.
