CARMI, Ill. - A White County felon has posted bond and his companion remained jailed as of today following a traffic stop in Carmi, wherein the companion is alleged to have eaten the dope she had on her to avoid being charged.

That didn’t quite work out as planned, as she was indeed charged…with Obstruction of Justice.

The incident arose after a traffic stop at 8:16 p.m. last night (Monday, June 12) on Walnut Street at Cherry Street.

Raymond C. Rountree, 44 of Carmi and the felon in question, was driving…and that was his first problem, since officers found that he was Driving on a Suspended License.

Carla Duke, 60, also of Carmi, was arrested for Obstruction after she consumed what authorities said were “illegal drugs” on the scene. That turned out to be cannabis, and both Rountree and Duke were cited on civil cannabis charges as well.

Rountree, who himself is currently on court-ordered probation for Obstruction/Destroying Evidence, was able to post bond at the scene and allowed to go on his way.

A petition to revoke his probation has already been filed, and a hearing is coming up on that in two weeks (June 28).

Duke remained jailed as of this afternoon, as Obstruction is generally filed as a felony and she will have to see a judge before bond being set.
