Gavin Roberts

WABASH CO.— A Mt. Carmel man who has avoided numerous drug convictions in the past and currently has at least one pending felony case has been charged with robbing a woman.

According to information filed in the case, Gavin Miles Roberts, 33, of 1307 North Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, committed the offense of Robbery when on May 5, while at 418 Elm Street, Mt. Carmel, he knowingly took property, identified as an Old National Bank bag containing United States currency and checkbook from Misty Roberts by the use of force by striking her in the head.

Roberts’ criminal history includes a conviction January 23, 2003 for Unlawful Possession of Cannabis and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia for which he was sentenced to probation for two years, ordered to undergo drug treatment and to pay $6,260 in fines and fees.

Another year of probation was added February 3, 2005 when Roberts violated the terms of his probation.

And on July 12, 2007 another probation term of two years was added along with an order to undergo alcohol treatment.

After dodging several drug cases, Roberts was convicted again May 19, 2011 of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, for which he was sentenced to conditional discharge for one year and was ordered to pay $1,606.

A July 19, 2012 conviction for Battery garnered Roberts a sentence of conditional discharge for one year and $422 in fines and fees.

At the time of his arrest Roberts has at least one pending case in Wabash from April 15, 2017 in which he is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Credit Card.

Roberts was originally taken into custody on charges of Domestic Battery, Theft and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, but only the robbery charge was filed formally.

Cash bond in the case was set at $10,000.

Arizona teen charged

An Arizona teen has been charged with a felony after police say she swiped something from a local gas station.

Information filed in the case alleges that on May 1, at approximately 4:23 p.m. Lauren N. Carroll, 19, of 153 East Maple Ave., Cotton Plant, Ariz., committed the offense of Retail Theft while at Jumpin Jimmys, located at 902 North Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel.

Whatever the item or items may have been, charges list the value at less than $150.

Apparently the fact that police appeared on the scene wasn’t enough to deter Carroll from further illegality as she proceeded to struggle with officer Daniel Hopper, causing injury to him as he was taking her into custody.

Carroll was booked into the county jail on charges of felony Resisting a Peace Officer and misdemeanor retail Theft.

She was released from police custody later that same day after posting a $500 cash bond.
