CARMI, Ill. - Carmi cops had a busy weekend according to reports from Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter.
Just after 9 p.m. Friday, May 19, Carmi officers David Agee and Sgt. Brad Spence went to a residence on the 800 block of Sycamore to serve a Franklin County warrant on Brittany McDonald.
McDonald, 29, of Carmi, was taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail, and all seemed well.
However, when McDonald was searched by a female correctional officer, a syringe was located in McDonald's bra.
The correctional officer transferred the syringe to Officer Agee, who got the liquid inside the needle tested, and it returned a positive result for methamphetamine.
McDonald was ordered held on the Franklin County warrant with a $500 cash bond; but her new White County charges are Possession of Meth, Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe/Needle, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
In other arrests in Carmi this weekend, Jacob D. Grove, 20, of New Haven, was arrested Friday at 11:21 a.m. at 1305 West Main on a report of retail theft. He was able to post $170 cash to secure his release.
And on Saturday, May 20, a Crossville resident, Rebecca L. Maier, 52, was arrested at 11:07 that morning at a location on the 100 block of Herbert Avenue in Carmi (she's taken issue with that, but that's what the report says) after an incident involving her husband (CORRECTED), Bradley Maier, 49, and another female, Starlett Dunn, 34.
Arresting charges were listed as misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct, Assault, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Domestic Battery, and felony Aggravated Battery. Ms. Maier remained jailed as of earlier today, at least.
We picked up most of these charges today on our regular courthouse run, so look for some details in the next issue, which is on stands a week from Wednesday, May 31...and if you want to read about it before then, be sure your e-Edition online membership is up to date by clicking this link.
