WABASH CO.— A Mt. Carmel man with a history of theft and alcohol-related issues has been charged with trying to take the weapon of a city officer.

According to information filed in the case, on March 31, Brandon S. Cooper, 22, of 115 Pecan Ave., Mt. Carmel, attempted to take a weapon from officer Erin Peach at a time when Cooper knew Peach to be a police officer in the performance of her official duties.

One count of Disorderly Conduct was also listed on the statement of charge but not yet formally filed.

Cooper’s criminal history includes a conviction April 8, 2013 of Theft and sentenced to conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay $912 in fines and fees.

He earned himself a sentence of conditional discharge for 12 months on August 4, 2014 following a conviction for Unlawful Consumption of Liquor by a Minor.

That brush with booze cost Cooper $607 in fines and fees.

He also earned himself $200 in fines and fees after he was found guilty on January 23, 2017 of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Cooper was released from police custody April 6 after a $4,000 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Dara Lofton Dooley, of 109 Pecan Ave., Mt. Carmel.
