MARION CO., Ill. - Two out-of-state adults and two young children were transported to Salem Township Hospital this morning after an accident on Interstate 57.
Illinois State Police from District 12 in Effingham said the single-vehicle incident occurred at 7:08 a.m. today (Sunday, April 23, 2017.)
Preliminary investigative details show that a 2003 Pontiac Aztec being driven by Christiana Moshier, 23, of Lapeer, Michigan, was traveling southbound on I-57 at that time. With Moshier was Jeffery Miller, 28, of Memphis, Tenn., and two children from Memphis, ages 21 months and 6 months.
It was at about milepost 120 in Marion County, Moshier advised ISP, that she thought the rear wheel came off the vehicle, and so she swerved onto the right shoulder, then overcorrected.
The vehicle skidded sideways across both lanes of traffic, leaving two deep gouges in the roadway.
As the vehicle began to cross the left lane of traffic towards the center median, it barrel-rolled onto its passenger side, then rolled approximately two or three times before coming to a rest upright in the center median.
Marion County EMS responded and all occupants were transported to Salem Township Hospital. Their conditions were not made available.
There have been no citations issued, however.
