Samuel J. Stafford

CARMI,, Ill. - A young driver was arrested and charged early this morning, and a gentleman has reported medications being stolen from his camper, both in the city of Carmi.

Carmi police report that 19-year-old Samuel J. Stafford, from Enfield, was the subject of a traffic stop today (Wednesday, April 12) at 1:58 a.m. on the basis of improper display of license plate.

Stafford, who pulled over into the Carmi Motel parking lot for the stop, was driving a 1988 Dodge Dakota with a license plate that dispatch advised actually belonged on a Mercury passenger car.

He was cited for misdemeanor Unlawful Display of Vehicle License as well as a pesky little Operating Uninsured, as the arresting officer discovered.

As of this morning at about 10:30, he was still being held at the county jail in lieu of posting $150 bond.

And an elderly gentleman residing on North Third Street in Carmi reported yesterday (Tuesday, April 11) that someone broke into his camper there and stole multiple medications.

Donald VanHorne, 86, gave police the full report including the types and amounts of meds stolen, so any pillheads out there who are hoping to score won’t be hesitant to buy them from their favorite plug, since every single person involved in the equation (except Mr. VanHorne) might be arrested and charged in the next big Southern Illinois Drug Task Force bust.
