MARION CO., Ill. - An elderly woman from Vandalia was injured this morning near Kell in Marion County in what appears to have been a harrowing single-vehicle accident.

Illinois State Police said the incident occurred at 11:51 a.m. this morning, Monday, February 20, 2017, on Illinois Route 37 a quarter-mile south of Kell Road in Marion County.

Preliminary investigative details indicate that Roxann Brannon, 75, driving a gold 2013 Ford Focus, was traveling northbound on Route 37 when the vehicle left the roadway slightly to the right and onto the rocky shoulder.

As Brannon steered back onto the roadway, the vehicle then began to enter the southbound lane.

Brannon then overcorrected and the rear end of the vehicle began to skid sideways.

The vehicle left the roadway to the right, and went down into a ditch embankment. Upon impact with the embankment, the vehicle proceeded to roll four times side-to-side before coming to a final rest upright.

Marion County EMS responded, but Brannon was flown from the scene by air evac to a St. Louis Hospital. Her condition remained unaddressed by ISP District 12, who issued the press release. She was not issued any citations, however.
