RICHLAND CO., Ill. - Another delay in the proceedings against Glenn Ramey in Richland County Circuit Court has pushed a pre-set hearing back another five weeks.
Ramey, 53 and most recently of Olney, is the man originally from deep southern Illinois (Johnson County) who is accused in the rape and murder of 8-year-old Sabrina Stauffenberg on November 23, 2016 in Olney.
Ramey was scheduled to be in court today to see if the psych eval had been completed. The need for the evaluation, says his public defender Jim Lane, is that Ramey is mentally incompetent because he's not oriented, not aware of what's going on, etcetera. Those who've known Ramey for decades say this is a stunt that he pulls every time he gets into trouble with the law, which is frequently.
The evaluation isn't complete, however, and so there was no need for a hearing today. Lane and Richland's assistant state's attorney (Cole Shaner, presumably) met in court yesterday at the previously-scheduled time and by agreement continued the case to March 16 at 2 p.m.
It's unknown whether that eval will be complete by that time. The motion for the evaluation was made in mid-December; it's not easy to track when/where Ramey has met with the psychiatrist, Dr. Jerry Boyd, and we may not know specifics until it all finally gets in court.
All hearings are open to the public, and the public is encouraged to attend.
