WHITE CO.— A Carmi woman has been charged after inoperable tail lights lead to authorities discovering she was driving on a suspended license.

On February 5 at approximately 9:56 p.m. White County Deputy Scott Cantrell was on routine patrol in Carmi when he observed a gray Jeep Cherokee traveling north on Seventh St.

Cantrell noticed that one of the brake light lenses was broken and when the vehicle came to an intersection both back lights would go out.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop at the corner of Seventh and Shipley streets.

Cantrell identified himself as a deputy and asked the female for her driver’s license and proof of insurance.

The driver stated she did not have a valid driver’s license.

She stated she had just purchased the vehicle the day before and did not have insurance yet.

The driver was identified as Kimberly R. Carter, 44, of 417 North Seventh St., Carmi.

A check of police computers showed that Carter’s license was suspended.

A passenger in the Jeep, identified as David Brocket, came back with no warrants.

Brocket was informed he was free to go.

Ms. Carter was taken into custody and charged with Driving Revoked and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

Carter was released the next day, Feb. 6, after posting a $150 cash bond and a $20 booking fee.
