CARMI, Ill. - A couple of traffic stops in Carmi landed a couple of local residents in the county hoosegow, one of them being the wife of a man arrested last week for child truancy.

Carmi police report that a traffic stop at the 200 block of East Webb Street yesterday evening (Monday, January 30, at 7:05 p.m.) lead to the arrest of Misty R. Escoto Aponte (also spelled Escotoaponte and, in this report, Escoto Aponite, so it's hard to tell which ID the authorities were looking at when they typed up the report), 34, of the 400 block of South Church Street.

This Escoto Aponte/Aponite was lodged in the county jail on the same charge her husband was last week: Permitting truancy of a child. The charges against both Escoto Apontes were filed last week and Disclosure observed the one against the missus and posted it Friday, January 27, where she was fully aware of it, but apparently that didn't do any good, as evidenced by the subsequent arrest. The Mr. Escoto, as it turns out, was released from jail that same day, the 27th, after a $150 bond was posted on his behalf. Also as it turns out, he was on court supervision as of November, following a Theft and Obstruction conviction initially filed as a felony and pled down to a misdemeanor...meaning this whole situation has now been elevated to an article in the upcoming print edition.

Carmi police also made another arrest on Monday to report; that of James L Parker, 20, of Highway 1, Carmi.

Carmi police report that Parker was the subject of a vehicle stop which resulted in an arrest for No Valid Driver's License.

And once police got that out of the way, Parker was also cited for Possession of Cannabis less than 10 grams, and the reason for the traffic stop, Disobeying a Stop Sign.

Parker has already made bond.
