WABASH CO.— A convicted Mt. Carmel drug felon has been charged with running from a police officer.
Police say that on December 11 Andrew C. Smith, 29, of 7571 North 2300 Blvd., Mt. Carmel, committed the offense of Resisting a Peace Officer when he ran from Mt. Carmel Police Officer Daniel Hopper in an attempt to prevent his arrest.
What is was that officer Hopper wanted Smith to stop for is unclear.
Smith’s criminal history includes a conviction August 21, 2006 of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for three years and ordered to pay $1,505 in fines and fees.
On November 17, 2008 Smith cut a plea deal in which a felony Aggravated Battery Causing Bodily Harm was amended to a misdemeanor Battery charge and he was sentenced to 364 days in jail and ordered to pay $ 210 in fines and fees.
Smith picked up a conviction for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol on November 7, 2011 and was sentenced to conditional discharge for 24 months and was ordered to pay $ 3,747 in fines and fees, of which he still owes $2,597.
