EDWARDS CO.— An Edwards County woman has been taken into custody by local and federal authorities after massive amounts of drugs were found on her person following a traffic incident.

According to official reports file by the policing agencies, on Thursday afternoon, October 27, Alma Garcia Tapia, 53, of 224 East Bon Pas St., Bone Gap, was taken into custody by lawmen from the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department, the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, the Albion Police Department and the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force.

Local lawmen had traveled to 319 East 7th St., Albion, in order to execute an arrest warrant on a separate, unnamed individual who sometimes stayed at that residence.

The individual they were looking for was not at the residence, but Tapia was.

Once spotted she was nabbed by federal authorities.

Subsequent to her arrest, the cadre of lawmen traveled to Tapia’s Bone Gap home and searched the residence, with no results.

“I want to praise every agency involved in this case,” said Edwards County Sheriff Darby Boewe. “This was a long investigation involving our sheriff’s department, the DEA and the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force.”

Tapia is currently being held in federal custody on one count of Criminal Drug Conspiracy.
