WHITE CO., Ill. - A White County character whose criminal exploits have had him the object of ire of both those in the criminal element as well as those in law enforcement for years is off to DOC.
Michael E. Melendez, 54, of Carmi, was sentenced today in White County to three years in prison on a Class 2 felony count of Forgery, which we outlined in this article at the e-Edition.
In addition to the three years DOC, Melendez, known locally by those in the drug world as “Mikey,” was also ordered to pay all mandatory fines, fees, costs, and assessments, as well as restitution.
Upon completion of his sentence, Melendez must also serve 1 year Mandatory Supervised Release (parole).
White County prosecute Denton Aud advised that the White County Sheriff's Department was the investigating agency in Melendez’ case, and noted that they did exceptional work.
