WHITE CO., Ill. - In an event that was locals were mistakenly calling “a raid by feds” yesterday (March 10), the White County Sheriff’s Department, Carmi Police Department, Southern Illinois Drug Task Force, and Illinois State Police conducted a search warrant detail following a lengthy investigation by the Task Force.
White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud issued information on the situation in a press release regarding the following five people:
Three were arrested at a residence at 1322 Sycamore Street during the execution of the warrant there: Carie Strean, 40, and Jason Hamby, 38, both who lived at the residence, and Kevin Kevitt, 39, of Joplin, Missouri were taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail.
Strean has been charged with Calculated Drug Conspiracy, two counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance (19.3 grams of meth), and Destruction of Evidence. She is being held without bond pending a court appearance.
Hamby was charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of more than 2.5 grams of Cannabis. He too is being held without bond.
Kevitt was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of less than 2.5 grams of Cannabis, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is also being held without bond pending a court appearance.
Also as a result of the investigation, Beverly Newman, 46, was arrested at 911 Stewart Street and charged with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine. Newman is being held at the White County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
Carmi police officers also took David Strean, 60, into custody at his residence at 805 Smith Street on a charge of Unlawful Delivery of Meth and transported him to the White County Jail. His bond has also been set at $5,000.
Sheriff Doug Maier and Police Chief Jason Carter say that the investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests are anticipated.
