FLORA, Ill. - Flora Chief of Police John Nicholson has announced that a state-mandated police training exercise will be taking place this Friday at Flora Elementary Grade School.

Unit 35 School District, in conjunction with the Flora Police Department, will be conducting an "intruder alert" drill at the school, Nicholson said, so if folks observe numerous squad cars at the school, don't be alarmed, as this is only training for local law enforcement and school staff.

Nicholson said the training will consist of emergency operation plans that the Unit 35 school district and local law enforcement have developed and will further enhance policies and procedures in the event of an intruder emergency.

There will be NO students involved in this training exercise, Nicholson said in a press release.

"This is a mandated emergency drill that is conducted jointly with local law enforcement and is similar to fire drills and extreme weather drills," the chief advised. "By conducting these drills we are better prepared for all emergencies and form a cooperative working relationship with our local emergency services.

"Thank you in advance for your understanding."
