MARION CO., Ill. - A fatal aircraft accident early this week near the Centralia airport is still under investigation, but the coroner of the county where it occurred is saying it wasn't attributed to a pilot's medical condition.
The medical condition of the pilot, Raymond Brown, 62, was the subject being examined by Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon in the wake of the fatal crash of a light gyrocopter Brown was operating Monday afternoon. The examination was being conducted to rule out an unknown medical conditions as a possible reason why the aircraft went down.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash for any possible mechanical issue that could have lead to it.
In the meantime, Cannon said that toxicology might shed some light on an undiagnosed condition, but it might take a while, as those tests generally take weeks to be returned.
