WEDNESDAY COLLISION IN MARION COUNTY SENDS PASSENGER TO HOSPITAL

MARION CO., Ill. - A two-vehicle collision Wednesday left a Walnut Hill man cited and a passenger in one of the vehicles transported to a hospital.

The accident occurred on U.S. 50 at North intersection of U.S. 51, Marion County at 8:15 a.m. yesterday, January 6, 2016.

Illinois State Police Dist. 12 said a silver 2012 Toyota Prius being driven by David E. Koenegstein, 73, of Walnut Hill, as stopped at the north U.S. 50/U.S. 51 intersection facing West. A gray 2003 Chevrolet Impala being driven by Annette Simpson, 48, of Vandalia, was southbound on U.S. 51 turning east onto U.S. 50. Koenegstein began to move his vehicle forward to turn left (south) as Simpson was in the intersection. Koenegstein’s vehicle struck Simpson’s in the rear driver’s side tire, on the rim with the front bumper of Koenegstein’s Prius.

A passenger in Simpson’s vehicle, Joeitta M. Mansker, 22, of Centralia, was transported to Centralia Hospital via Sandoval Fire/EMS.

Koenegstein was cited for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device.
