WHITE CO.— A Crossville woman has been charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Unlawful Possession following a traffic stop near her home.

According to information filed in the case, on Wednesday, September 23, at approximately 10:47 p.m. White County Deputy Sheriff Craig Poole was on patrol in the Village of Crossville when he spotted a silver Volvo with a cracked windshield traveling westbound on Main Street.

Poole initiated a traffic stop at Main Street near Allen Street in Crossville and made contact with driver Kimberly Inez Jones, 32, of 209 North Allen St., Crossville.

The first problem Ms. Jones had was that she did not have her driver’s license on her person.

Poole noted that her eyes were very red and that it appeared she had not slept for some time.

He advised the reason for the stop was because of the broken front windshield.

Poole became concerned about Jones and asked her if everything was okay and she said that it was.

He noted her speech was slow at times a rapid at others and she seemed confused.

Poole asked Jones if she was under the influence of any drugs and she said no but stated that she had smoked marijuana a couple days prior.

At about that time backup arrived in the form of Sheriff Doug Maier and sheriff’s deputy Scott Cantrell.

Jones subsequently failed a field sobriety test and was advised she was being taken into custody on a charge of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.

She was secured in handcuffs and a tow was called to remove the vehicle from the scene.

Two passengers in the vehicle, identified as Devin Ward and Reggie L. Lickley, were asked to step out of the car in order for a pre-tow inventory to be done on the vehicle.

Devin Ray Ward, 26, of Crossville, is a convicted felon from Sept. 29, 2008 when he was found guilty of Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and Criminal Damage to Government Property for which he was sentenced to four months in jail and conditional discharge for two years.

On the date of Jones’ arrest Ward was serving a sentence of probation for two years handed him January 5, 2015 after he was convicted of Theft.

The inventory revealed a small amount of green leafy substance located in the driver’s middle console.

Jones was transported to the county jail where she voluntarily gave a urine sample to be sent off to a lab to determine what kind of drug she had in her system if any.

In addition to the DUI Jones was booked on an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of Cannabis less than 2.5 grams and cited for Obstructed View.

Cash bond in the case was set at $450.
