RICHLAND CO.— It seems state’s attorney David Hyde isn’t much better at prosecuting repeat offenders than he is collecting hundreds of thousands owed the county in fines and fees.
Burglary again
Nathan D. Farrar, 26, of 201 East Ridgeway St., Olney has been charged with one count of Burglary after authorities say on or about July 22 at 600 North Boone St., Olney, he knowingly and without authority entered a motor vehicle belonging to Richard F. Dehner with intent to commit theft.
Farrar is a convicted felon from 2005 and was ultimately sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC) on an Obstruction of Justice charge.
He was also ordered to pay $1,124 in fines and fees of which he still owes $1,059.
Farrar drew another four years in prison after a 2009 conviction on a pair of Stolen Vehicle charges.
He still owes $12,602 in that case.
As recently as 2011 Farrar was convicted of Burglary and sentenced to four and one half years in DOC.
He owes $383 from that case.
On his latest charge, Farrar was booked into the county jail on $7,500 cash bond.
Worlow’s Trout problem
Another one of Olney’s chronic offenders is headed back to prison.
John D.T. Worlow, 31, of 123 South Adams, Olney, has been sentenced to three years in DOC after being found guilty of one count each of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, identified as valium and hydrocodone and Violation of an Order or Protection by being within 500 feet of Janie Trout, a protected person.
Punched in the mouth
Travis N. Warren, 33, of 704 Parker St., Apt., B, Olney, has been charged with one count of Aggravated Battery after authorities say on or about July 12, at 402 Ludlow St., Olney, Warren struck Mark J. Kocher in the mouth with his fist.
Kocher is a convicted violent drug felon after being found guilty in 2012 of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine less than five grams and Domestic Battery for which he spent 120 in jail and 24 months on probation and paid $2,327 in fines and fees.
Warren was released July 16 after he posted $2,500 cash.
Conditions of his bond include he remain away from Kocher.
DUI and drugs
Brett Alan Marvel, 44, of 5018 East Anchor Lane, Olney, has been charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after authorities say on July 21, at 200 East Monroe St., Olney he willfully, unlawfully, and knowingly operated and was in physical control of a 1993 white Chevrolet at a time when he ability to drive was impaired by his consumption of alcohol and at a time when he had been previously convicted on two occasions in Richland County.
Authorities also claim that Marvel had on his person more than 2.5 but less than 19 grams of marijuana and a socket pipe with intent to use said pipe to inhale said weed.
Marvel was released later the same day after posting $1,500 cash.
Convicted in 1998 of DUI, Marvel was sentenced to 12 months court supervision and ordered to pay $1,385 in fines and fees.
He earned his second DUI in 2002 and was sentenced to eight days in the county jail, 12 months probation and ordered to pay $1,605 in fines and fees.
Meth and ADHD meds
Cody David Gregory, 24 of Rural Rte. 1, Box 36, Johnsonville, has been charged with one count each of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance after authorities say on July 15 at County Road 400E and U.S. Rte. 50 he had in his possession less than five grams of meth and a substance containing dextroamphetamine, commonly used to treat ADHD.
Gregory currently has a pending drug case in Wayne County case in which he is charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine less than five grams.
Gregory was released from custody July 20, after a $3,000 cash bond was posted on his behalf by Stacie Gregory of the same Johnsonville address.
Cannabis introduction charged
Jake T. Kuykendall, 27, of 3998 North Heritage Rd., Olney has been charged with one count each of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after authorities say on July 23 at Butler and Camp Streets, in Olney he had in his possession heroin, less than 2.5 grams of marijuana and a grinder with intent to use it to introduce the cannabis into his system.
He has a previous conviction for Driving Under the Influence from 2005 for which he was sentenced to 12 months court supervision and ordered to pay $1,275 in fines and fees.
Kuykendall has been housed in the county jail on $2,500 cash bond.
Aggravated batterer
Brian Dale Chaplin, 35, of 310 East Lafayette St., Olney has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery in a public place after authorities say on or about July 23 in the 600 block of East Lafayette he punched Lindsay Roth in the chin with a closed fist and kicked Liza Martin in the stomach.
Chaplin also faces a single count of Domestic Battery because Ms. Roth is a household member.
He is a convicted felon from 2002 after being found guilty on a two counts of Forgery and one count of Use of Another’s Check 3+/1yr., for which he was sentenced to 18 months probation and ordered to pay $1,426.79 in fines and fees.
Chaplin was booked into the county jail on $7,500 cash bond.
Meth delivery
Joseph Wayne Wilkinson, Jr., 40, of 1019 West Main, Lot #6, Olney has been charged with one count of Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine after authorities say on July 24, he delivered less than five grams of meth.
Cash bond in the case has been set at $10,000.
Swinson posts bond
Jessie L. Benefield, 25, of 3556 North Prairieton, Rd., Claremont, has been charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis after authorities say on July 17, at Rte. 50 and Baird Street, Olney, Benefield possessed less than 2.5 grams and oxycodone.
A convicted drug felon for meth possession in 2006 Benefield has already served a three year sentence in DOC.
In 2007 Benefield was sent back to DOC on a six-year sentence for meth delivery.
In the most recent drug case, Benefield was released from custody July 19 after Robert A. Swinson, of 4993 North Illinois Rte. 130 posted $2,000 cash.
