MADISON CO., Ill. - Speculation is running rampant today after the Monday deaths of two men from southeastern Illinois whose bodies were found at a Super 8 Motel in Pontoon Beach in Madison County, on the southwestern side of the state.

Dave Davis, 30, of Olney, and Duane Logsdon, 31, of Effingham, both employed by ACI Roofing in Olney, were found dead in the motel Monday morning at 6:42 a.m.

Local authorities aren't saying how the two died...which has lead to a lot of speculation on the parts of those back in Richland/Effingham counties, who are now fielding questions about the deaths.

Reports to us indicate that Davis had not been in good health recently, although that wouldn't account for Logsdon's death. Sources couldn't or wouldn't say what Davis' potential illness might've been.

Davis, had, however, spent a good deal of time behind bars recently at the Richland County Detention Center on status violations in recent crimes he'd been convicted of, including a 2014 Meth Delivery charge, for which he was set for a compliance date last Thursday (August 20).

Davis continued to get out of serious punishment for infractions like that one and a 2013 DUI-Drugs, as well as a major meth arrest in 2012 (which resulted in a short DOC sentence), despite the fact that his 2006 Giving Liquor to a Minor resulting in Death charge and conviction was one of the earliest mishandlings of a very serious crime in Richland by former prosecutor David Hyde. davis' actions, for which he got a slap on the wrist in 2008, resulted in the death of a Richland County teen when she crashed into a tree on one of the county roads after imbibing booze Davis bought for her, as well as taking pills another woman had obtained for her.

Ergo the speculation that the deaths were drug-related is also rampant. Madison County is awash with heroin, so that wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

Another bit of speculation was that there was "something in the motel room" that might've killed them...although there weren't any other reported deaths in the same motel.

Initial reports Monday morning had it that the two died in Olney. Then, further reports running the rumor mill had it that there was a third death. None of that is true.

It would help, however, if Madison County authorities would at least give a little insight into what DIDN'T cause the deaths of the two men in Pontoon Beach. So far...nothing. We're keeping an eye on it though, and will bring any new material to you as it develops. Keep checking back.
