WHITE CO., Ill.— White County authorities are working on a possible arson case in the village of Crossville.
According to official documents, yesterday (Monday, July 6), at 8:56 p.m., Deputy Scott Cantrell responded to a residence located at 408 Rawlinson St., Crossville, on a report by James “Chigger” Browning that someone had unlawfully entered his home.
Once on scene, Cantrell spoke with Browning’s wife Holly and was told that she had left the house at approximately 7:30 p.m. and went to visit a friend.
Holly Browning said when she returned at about 9 p.m. she found that someone had turned all of the burners on the cook stove and had placed a dish towel on one of them.
When Cantrell entered the house he saw a burnt spot on the left back burner of the stove.
“Apparently the towel had caught fire and caused the surface and the back panel of the stove to become scorched,” Cantrell said.
James Browning also showed Cantrell the entry door to the house had been damaged.
“It appeared the door had been forced,” Cantrell said.
Browning told Cantrell she had left the trailer unlocked when she left.
Anyone with information as to who may have broken into the Browning’s Crossville home, at 408 Rawlinson St., is asked to contact local authorities.
