WABASH CO.—A special prosecutor has been appointed to handle in Wabash County Circuit Court a sex charge against a prominent Mt. Carmel businessman and a woman with a criminal history who is known for being a lesbian.
Matt Goetten, of the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor’s Office in Springfield, stepped into the Criminal Sexual Assault case filed against William (Willy) R. Krup, 50, of East Point Lane at Mesa Lake, south of Lancaster, and Madonna McGrew, 29, of West Fifth Street in Mt. Carmel, this on May 28.
It’s unclear why Wabash County’s duly-elected prosecutor, Cassandra Goldman, bowed out of the case.
However, according to official paperwork filed in the matter, she’s had several months to make her decision.
The alleged incident that prompted the charge dates back to January 24 of this year.
At that time, Krup and McGrew are accused of committing the offense of Criminal Sexual Assault by an act of sexual penetration with Kate Chambers, in that each of them placed their mouths “on the vagina of Chambers, knowing she was unable to give knowing consent at that time.”
Court documents don’t indicate where this is alleged to have happened, only that it was to have occurred in Wabash County.
Willy Krup is known locally for Willy’s Carburetors & Dyno Shop in Mt. Carmel, a long-time auto-related business tied in with regional race car circuits.
His son, Will Krup, 24, was repeatedly in the news five and six years ago for bad driving, underage drinking, and other offenses that continued to be treated lightly by Goldman, due, said many in Wabash, to her association with such movers and shakers as the Krups.
The arrest and charge of the elder Krup on the sex count has stunned many in Wabash and surrounding counties.
Krup was served with the warrant of arrest and posted $5,000 bond for himself on May 29.
A condition of his bond was that he have no contact with Chambers.
It’s unclear exactly who she is, although Disclosure’s research into the matter indicates that Chambers is a rather unattractive businesswoman from the Evansville area. What she was having to do with Krup also remains unknown, as do the circumstances of the alleged assault.
McGrew, formerly known as Madonna Peach, has quite the checkered past in Wabash and Edwards counties in Illinois as well as in Vanderburgh and Gibson in Indiana.
While her criminal history in those venues has been limited, she raised eyebrows more than 10 years ago when, at the tender age of 17, advised just about anyone who would listen that she was busy seeing then-auxiliary-cop Harvey Fenton of West Salem on the side.
McGrew’s mother had been in and out of trouble in the north Edwards area and it was assumed that McGrew had concocted the rumors in order to toss some embarrassment Fenton’s way in an effort to throw attention off her mom.
At that time, though, McGrew also advised that she was decidedly bisexual…not as trendy a thing in 2003-04 as it is in 2015.
The latest allegations, on a criminal level, kind of lend to that premise, however.
Further, for such a charge to have been alleged and Chambers to have been “unable to give knowing consent at the time” it happened usually means one of two things: The woman was either asleep and awoke to find the alleged assault occurring, or she was incapacitated in some way, either by alcohol, drugs or at least medication.
As of press time, a report outlining how the entire case came to be was unavailable, as it was handled by Illinois State Police and not the local law enforcement, according to Wabash County Sheriff Derek Morgan.
Krup was set for a first appearance on the charge for June 23 As of June 10, court documents show that Krup had retained Mt. Carmel attorney Mike Witters as defense counsel.
A modification of Krup’s bond to be allowed to travel outside the state of Illinois was approved at that time as well.
