LAWRENCE CO.—Movement in the case of a Lawrenceville punk who took off with a local girl in February has begun.
Caleb D. Gallion, 18, the 1600 block of 11th St., Lawrenceville, was charged May 28 with Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, this in the case dating back to February 2, when Gallion and a girl he was obsessed with, Chloe Case, 15, took off in said vehicle.
Authorities allege, on the local level, anyway, that on that date, at 13171 Volkman Dr., Bridgeport, Gallion possessed a 1994 Ford Thunderbird at a time when he knew it to be stolen.
The two took off and were reported missing from school the next day; they’d gotten a pretty good lead on everyone and were holed up at a location in Perryville, Missouri.
They were able to retain their lead because family members of each kid were making an effort to let the public know that the two were missing, and to be on the lookout for them.
A helpful “friend” of Gallion’s, however, joined the Facebook pages of the groups working to retrieve the two kids, and kept the runaways apprised of each lead the group was making…including learning that they had holed up in Perryville.
As a consequence of this, the two took off for points even further south, ultimately landing in Hunt County, Texas, specifically, in the Dallas area.
There, Gallion got into it with someone who left the marks seen in the mugshot, submitted by Hunt County, Texas, authorities.
He was arrested by Hunt County officials and charged there with Texas counts of Underage Possession Alcohol, Failure to Yield, and Possession of Brass Knuckles (for all the good those did him.)
Gallion had been being held for several months in Texas; records there indicate that he’s no longer in the custody of Texas officials, but as of deadline, Disclosure was unable to learn whether his cases in Texas had been disposed of.
Case was returned to Illinois upon Gallion’s Texas arrest. Reports indicate that she wasn’t exactly with him willingly, but there have been no charges to reflect abduction or any crime associated with such a thing.
Gallion’s Lawrence County bond in the case has been set at $4,000.
Apparently, allegedly-stolen cars and running off with underage girls aren’t the only things the young man has a problem with.
He also has an Emergency Order of Protection against him from June 5 forbidding him to have any contact with or be around Leah Mahrenholz…who happens to be Chloe Case’s mother.
It’s unclear whether there was any culpability in the auto theft as regards Case; since she’s a minor, there may or may not have been something filed.
Early reports had it that Case had been involved in some kind of misdemeanor crime involving thieving a purse from someone at Lawrenceville’s Walmart, but that didn’t pan out, and now appears to have been hype generated by Gallion’s friends, who were trying to distract from what Gallion had done and throw some disparaging light on Case.
Disclosure was set to do an update on the Gallion case February 3 exclusively on the e-Edition at the website, and placed a teaser on the front page of that month’s issue telling about it.
However, due to circumstances beyond our control, having less to do with authorities and more to do with people who have succeeded in keeping Disclosure staff from doing their jobs to the fullest since about last September, the article about Gallion and Case never appeared…and for that, we apologize.
Gallion has yet to have a first court date set in the case; see upcoming issues for further updates.
